Hello and welcome to my blog!

My name is Vu and as you have guessed I live across the freeway from Compton, Californ-i-a.  Why did I create this blog you ask?  Well, I feel that it’s time that the white man understands the ghetto, and who better to explain it than an asian man who lives across the freeway from Compton.

A little bit about Compton, Ca.  (Taken from wiki)

Compton Seal

Compton is often labeled as an “inner-city” community primarily due to poverty, the elevated crime rate found in the city, and its location in South Los Angeles.  Compton has the highest unemployment rate in the county with a quarter of its population, 100,000, living below the poverty level. Also known as the murder capital, this year the city has the lowest homicide rate in 20 years.

Despite the city’s mark on African-American culture, Compton has a multiracial and multi-ethnic population. The city boasts an equestrian club, an astronomy program for teenagers, and the Major League Baseball Academy.

Despite Compton’s bad reputation, I am happy to report the following:

  • It has been 13 days since the last murder in Compton. Definitely great news!
  • This year the city has the lowest homicide rate in 20 years.
  • TARGET opened, expecting to bring in $2 million in tax revenue and 1300 new jobs.  (Yay! It’s walking distance from my house)
